Advice on how to get Medium Shag hair cut????

I need help on how to get the shag look hair style. My hair type is coarse with medium volume. Not too-thick or too thin. Do I let it grow all out? do I need it razor-ed?

then get it cut that lenght then get it razored


or maybe even a little uneven layers to hellp
