Advice about getting a new position?

It is an employee relations position and a major function would be to develop the weekly newsletter and other employee notices and dissemination. I want to impress the PR director by coming up with a newsletter prototype. The problem is I've never done a newsletter before. I wouldn't even know how to go about gathering the information and organizing it. Any suggestions about what I should feature in the newsletter and on how to get interesting information? I am in the hotel industry. Many thanks!Advice about getting a new position?
I'm totally flying by the seat of my pants, but here goes:

-Learn MicroSoft Publisher.

-Create a sample newsletter before your interview to demostrate your skill.

-Scour the internet for ideas.

-How about a weekly section on the Benifits the Hotel offers.

-Weekly calnder of Events.

-Corporate news sections. (like the stuff in Yahoo! news section)

-Profile a company employee each week. Not the big guys, the ';lower level'; employees.
