I need some advice on me getting a tattoo?

I have wanted a tattoo for about 8yrs now. But I can't make up my mind what to get and where to get it. How did you make up your mind what to get and where to get it on you?

ThankuI need some advice on me getting a tattoo?
I got mine on my lower back

I chose it because that's the first place i could think of to get one

and it seemed right. I got a butterfly = ) I need some advice on me getting a tattoo?
Just make sure you are absolutely sure that you've picked out the right design, because getting it taken off costs about 10 times more, and it's about 10 times more painful! Also, make sure you go to a respectable shop that is certified and recommended by the health department. (You can find this out by calling the health department and asking them!) It is also a good idea to make sure they are certified by the American Tattooist Association, in order to show you this, they will usually have some sort of certificate on the wall. And another thing is to make sure they have an autoclave that is certified by the health department, make sure they use sterile ink cups instead of dipping in to the bottle, and also make sure they have a clean shop, and that they change their gloves regularly. For example, if they answer the phone or something while tattooing you, make sure they change their gloves when their done!
The first one I didn't make up my mind on anything, I walked in and found a cool one and slapped that bad boy on my back shoulder.

The second one was just a flower cuz I wanted one on my foot

My third one was the only that actually has meaning. It's got my mother's last name and my father's (mine too) last name in banners over a blue rose. They aren't married so I had two names.

I guess it's just personal opinion, if you've wanted one for 8 years and never got it then it's safe to say you're mature enough to find one you can like.

Is there anything you like in your life, like very memorable or something? Those usually make good tattoos, maybe a child's name or a fallen loved one?
Do something generic not a bf's name or organization you belong to or something like that. Life changes and when your bf leaves or the organizations kicks you out you might not want to be reminded. Get something small for starter and keep in mind that some employers do not hire people who have a tattoo. My employer is one of those so make sure that your tattoo is not readily visible like on the face, neck, wrists, hands, lower arms etc so it can be covered up if needed.
I actually thought about things I wanted on me forever rather than just ';wanting a tattoo.'; Things that were important to me. Things relating to my family and such. That and just looking for designs and pictures and whatnot that I liked the look and style of. It's not about making up your mind. It shouldn't be a decision like that, it should come naturally. When you see it, you'll know it.
I have 2 tattoos and did not get my first one until after I was 18, I wanted to wait until I could make a mature choice to live with forever. First remember that tattoos blend after you age so get something defined well. I personally knew what I wanted because the tattoos represented something special in my life. My first tat was a beautiful flower blooming to symbolize how I am blooming into a different person while growing up. The second was Italian script about love, I got it when I got engaged. Just keep your eye out for beautiful art and think about it in relation to your life. When its right youll just know what to get and where. Good luck

PS when you decide where remember your career and even wedding day..do you want your tat to show? I didnt so I got one on my shoulder blade and the script across my back very small. Sometimes tattoos can look less classy if put on your neck or someplace where people will see. Im in nursing so I would never want a patient to see it.
My first I knew I wanted a ';fantasy'; type tattoo. I was kind of leaning towards a dragon. When I was searching through the book at the tattoo shop I came across a pegasus that I really liked. My artist told me to use the search engines to look at tattoo designs I was interested in. But I never found anything that I liked better than the pegasus.

My second is a bleeding rose. I knew I wanted the rose... the blood was kind of an afterthought. Actually one day when I was searching the internet I came across a really cool picture of a bleeding rose. But it wasn't exactly what I wanted. So I took it to my artist and had her rework it a bit and it is so awesome!

As for placement both of mine are in places that won't be seen unless I want them to be seen. It is just my preference. Once day I would like to get one ';out in the open'; - but for now I like the discretion of hidden tattoos.

Definitely look at things that interest you - whether it be sci-fi, flowers, animals, whatever. It has to be something you like or you won't be happy with it. Good luck with your choice!
I've got two. A dragon on my back right shoulder and a celtic tributary on the inside of my left wrist. I decided on those not because I thought they looked cool but for each one to represent something. My dragon stands for me being born in the year of the dragon and the tributary is for me and my two best friends. Each of us got on to show that we would be sisters not just friends, As far as where to get them I spent about a week trying to in vision where I would put it and if it could be covered if need be and if i could live with it there forever. Basically think alot before you do and if you feel you've found the right one and the right place for it then go for it! Good Luck! Hope this helps ^_^
I think you should have an idea of what you want to get tattooed, before WANTING to get one. Because if you just choose something for the sake of getting a tattoo, you may not like it.

And tattoo is a totally personal thing so all of telling you won't be very individualistic. Or even what design to get. Some people like cute little designs and some like large, bold and armful.

It's totally upto you. So think about it
I found my tattoo on tattoojoe or something (google it). I had it picked out for about 4 months before I actually got it. One night I got off work and just decided I was getting it that night. I got it on the right side of my back right above my butt. I didn't want it in the middle because all girls get it there. My tattoo is a really feminine cross and I love it!
be careful, I really wanted one and did heaps research even designed my self then 10 years later I really would prefer not to have one.

It's one of those things though when you don't have it you want it I guess and you don't learn until you make a mistake
If you really want a tattoo that bad, get a red dragon across your back.

I'm sorry, I never needed to make up my mind, as I never got a tattoo %26gt;.%26lt; Sorry!

If I wanted to, I would get one on my bicep, a skull with a snake through it.
I've thought about getting one before, but always been glad that I did not. I guess if I ever did get one, I'd want it where the sun doesn't shine, that way, I never have to be ashamed of it or worried about what others think.
OK, So you would wont something that u wouldn't mind on you for a LONG LONG LONG LONG LONG TIME like your name or a heart or a cross(if ur christian) I don't know something that u wouldn't mind on ur body when ur 89 is what im saying
Just go with something you really like for a design, cuz you are going to have it for a very long time. You might want to stick to something you won't mind looking at for a very, very long time. xox

Tattoos are best when they mean something. But they don't have to...

Get a back piece, of something pretty like a flower. I know it's overdone, but I love tattoos that are feminine. It's almost like an oxymoron.
Skip it and tell everyone you got one in a very private place. that way, you'll be the envy of all your friends, and don't have to put up with some ugly blue stretched thing when you're 55 years old
LOTS of thought, LOTS of pictures, L-O-T-S of MEANING. If it doesn't have enough meaning, you'll be back on here in a few years asking if you can take it off with sandpaper by yourself!!!
get it some wer u cant see it noormally like lower back or even behind ear

ive once gottn a henna tatto on a cruise ship on my ankle and it turnd out good but on formal night it made my outfit look really trashy so
If you have no incentive to get it, you might be better off not getting one.
check out bmezine.com's tattoo galleries for ideas.

My folks died so I got a heart with Mom and Dad,,they are always with me........

next one is for fun
Put a target in the middle of your forehead. when ppl ask why you put it there you can explain that if you were going to disfigure yourself you might as well let other ppl see how stupid you are.
yeah don't do it. i think you'll end up regretting it and tattoos are a big turn off for me =/
