Diabetes 2: Just got the news from doc. What advice can you offer so I don't start feeling sorry for myself?

I know it's stupid to feel sorry for myself - it has been a bad week-end. Excuses, excuses, I know!Diabetes 2: Just got the news from doc. What advice can you offer so I don't start feeling sorry for myself?
I initially blamed myself for the diagnosis as well and that is normal means of grieving. Just because you've been diagnosed as Type 2 doesn't mean it is totally your fault, you may of been genetically pre-disposed to develop diabetes. Being Type1, I would prefer Type 2 over Type 1. Though Type 2 is more attributed to ones life style, proper exercise and diet may allow one to reduce their dependency for medication. To an extent that can be done with Type 1, but the pancreas may be on its death bed, which will eventually require full dependence on insulin. Either way, had I not been diagnosed, I wouldn't be taking care my self in the manner I currently am. I do my carb-counting for each meal, exercise almost everyday, check my feet and currently have an A1C of 5.5. It did take motivation and it is so worth it compared to the complications that we face.

Remember, it is not about being a perfectionist, perfection only lasts a moment. Diabetes, lasts a life time and is therefore a marathon.Diabetes 2: Just got the news from doc. What advice can you offer so I don't start feeling sorry for myself?
The best way to help with your diabetes is to eat well and exercise, exercise, Exercise!

Also, if you can, try to find a local support group. 2 friends of mine run a local support group for diabetics called ';Dodging Diabetes'; If you want, I could send you their emails and you could ask them for some advice. Just send me an email and I'll see what kind of info I can get from them for you.

Sorry to hear about the diabetes. You will get through this.

Take Care,

Cindy

It is NOT your fault in any way.

Many type 2's can be managed with diet and exercise but not all.It is not your fault.

You have a lot to learn about your body and you will have opportunities to make new friends along the way. This is not your fault.

If you ever need surgery, diabetes gets you a ticket to first surgery in the morning !

You have just been given a great gift to learn the best way for you to live and remain healthy. Diabetes is not your fault.

First off make sure you are working with a great endo.A GP will not do.

Make an appointment through your endo to see a dietitian and take a welcome to diabetes class.

You can start subscribing to diabetes magazines that give you a basis for learning about this new gift you have been given.

Knowledge is power and the more you learn, the more you know.

You may want to join a support group and meet new friends.

Take it slow.

Learn step by step.

It's okay to feel sorry for yourself.Just don't let it take over your life for more than a few days.

And...guess what ? It is NOT your fault !
Don't feel sorry for yourself.

Your doctor may not know how to cure diabetes but many other people do know how to cure diabetes.

It begins with a raw food, high fat diet.

You can be cured of diabetes in 30 days.
You can do a marvelous job of controlling it with diet these days.
You have type 2 consider yourself lucky just eating the right foods will makeit easy for you to control.

I have type 1 and although it was hard to deal with at first you learn to deal with it and it just becomes an everday thing...

you will learn to live with it not always be thinkin of it.
My dad has diabetes and can still do all the things he could do before it. You will be fine, and you can be happy with diabetes.
It's very natural to feel sorry for yourself and to go through denial. Some even get depressed. But remember, that you can control it, stay on a good diet, watch the carbs. Learn about good and bad carbs. Get a dietitian or nutritionist. They can be your life line. Take your meds as directed. If you ever have any doubts about anything, or any question, even if you think it's dumb, talk to your doctor. Start getting some exercise. You will feel good about yourself, and be able to control your blood sugar a lot better. Walking is great. Remember that, it could have been worse. You could have gotten some REALLY bad news. Once you catch on to everything, diabetes is something you know you have, but you know you can control it.
Just try to eat healthy and exercise, follow the diabetic menu that the doctor gave u, it'll be okay, stay strong.

To: Instant Human, so u mean to tell me that babies born with diabetes did it to themselves too!
realize that you did it to yourself.
