please save a shelter dog go to www.petfinder.com and find a dog that you can adopt and save his life!! sad to say there are alot to choose from :(I want to get a little puppy maltese...any advice?
If you want a TRUE Maltese puppy, look up the local breed club in your area. They can put you in touch with reputable breeders...SO NOT BUY FROM A PUPPY MILL OR BYB OR PET STORE!!!
Maltese are GREAT little dogs with wonderful dispositions UNLESS THEY ARE UNTRAINED in which case they can be little terrors. Take her to puppy class, obedience, etc.
With puppies, feeding 3 equal meals a day is recommended. Once they are old enough (I would say, from personal experience) about 3 months old, feed twice perday.
NOTHING other than HIGH QUALITY PUPPY FOOD for the first while (if you can buy it at Walmart or in a grocery store, it's CRAP FOOD!!!!).
GO to the local pet food store. THey can help you. Yes, it costs a lot more but the quality of the nutrition is there. There is NO NEED TO FEED ';MUSH'; (CANNED FOOD - bad for theit teeth - kibble or ';raw diet'; is best). Later on you can ad stuff like raw carrots, apple, etc BUT NO TABLE SCRAPS!!!
Walking the puppy..or letting her out...
Rule of thumb...they can only hold it for 1 hour per month of age (plus one hour)...I personally never tried the ';plus one hour'; to be on the safe side. So...when I got my puppy, I got up in the middle of the night, twice, to put her out....The older she got, the less frequently UI had to do this.
Crate training is also a good idea but the crate has to be the right size...too big and they will ';mess in it';...If you want more info on this, you can e-mail me.
If your schedule is too busy for a puppy, consider a rescue dog (I have 3)....however, ask the right questions....if the dog is not housebroken, you might as well get a puppy since it mayl take longer to teach the rescue dog if it is an adult.
Good luck to you.
very friendly and cute dogs, they dont require lots of walking since they are small but must walk atleast once a day. feed him only purina healthy dog food
