I've emailed him requests for payment but he refuses, I even sent him a letter of demand, but to no avail. Is is worth taking him to the Small Claims Court? I have nothing in writing, apart from a receipt for the golf clubs he brought with the money.Any advice on getting back $2000 loaned to boyfriend 18 months ago? No longer going out but he refuses to pay?
Do what you need to but honestly the amount you will spend trying to get it back could be more than the actual amount owed to you. You could have a lawyer speak with him but if you never signed a contract or anything of that nature he could say it was a gift. Just let it go. I know its alot of money but even if you win a court case, he may never pay a dime and you will be out even more money.Any advice on getting back $2000 loaned to boyfriend 18 months ago? You can take it to small claims court. Depending on the state, it should not cost more then $50, plus cost of serving him the paperwork.
While a signed contract would be nice, you do have the receipt for the clubs. Let the judge decide.
I have the same problem. I sued my ex BF and won almost $3000. That was in 2003. I have yet to collect. THe court will award you money if you win the case, but it doesnt collect for you and there is no consequences for the person NEVER paying. I would sue him for the principle of it even though you may never see the money. Suing in small claims IS SUPER EASY.
You need to take legal advice about this. However, I think they will probably advise you to use it as a hard lesson to learn and write the debt off.
Have you tried appealing to his better nature (does he have one?).
Good luck.
Has he paid anything? any receipts? Did you withdraw from your savings this would show the amount corresponding with the money order? You do have the receipt for the clubs I would check on how much the cost would be to take him to court. $2000 is not a small amount, and he will be under oath, if he purges himself he will go to jail. you can get your momey back + court cost. Are there any friends that can verify this for you and go with you to court? You can also put a judgement against him which will go against his credit. but I would try to get the 2000 back call you clerk of courts or go by there.dont call him anymore take action!
