My mom is making me get a paps mere next year when i turn 14.I am SO scared .Any advice?

Don't be scared. It's a routine test that many women get done every year. It's a procedure that tests for cervical cancer or hpv, which can cause cervical cancer. It also can find abnormalities within the cervix. Most women don't have any problems, especially if you aren't sexually active. Usually a doctor will tell you to not do the following at least 48 hours before a Pap smear:

- douching

- using any creams or vaginal inserts

- having sex

- using tampons

Here is what happens during the test:

You will be asked to undress from the waist down and you will be given a sheet to cover up with. The doctor will tell you to spread your legs apart while your feet are in stirups. An instrument that helps open your vagina will be inserted that is lubricated. It usually doesn't hurt, it's just awkward and sometimes uncomfortable. An internal exam will be done (the dr might feel around will a gloved finger), and then a small swab will be used to take cells from your cervix. This doesn't hurt. The cells are then sent to a lab, and you will then get the results within a week or two.

This is a procedure that is done very quickly (usually within 5 minutes) and it is very simple. It's nothing to be worried about although it is completely normal to feel very scared and uncomfortable. My mom is making me get a paps mere next year when i turn 14.I am SO scared .Any advice?
Why are you scared? There's no need to be scared.

You'll be explained by a nurse what is going to happen. She'll leave the room and give you plenty of time to undress from the waist down, lay down on the chair thing and cover yourself.

The gyno will come in, and she may do an addition short exam on breathing and stuff. Maybe a breast exam.

Then you'll slide down and open your legs putting your feet on the stirrups. She'll get the speculum and insert it into your vagina. You're probably ansy about that part. It's lubricated and shouldn't hurt if you're relaxed. Your gyno will try and relax you, have a conversation with you.

Before you know it, it's over.

No reason to be nervous :-)My mom is making me get a paps mere next year when i turn 14.I am SO scared .Any advice?
She can't make you. She can try and pressure you,but no doctor will do anything against a patients will.

It's recommended that women get them when they first become sexually active or when they turn 18.

If you have a family history of ovarian cancer or things along that line,it may not be a bad idea to start early, but that decision is yours and yours alone.
She can NOT make you get a pap smear. When you go to the doctor tell him/her you do NOT want one.

Why is she making you go?? If she doesn't believe you're a virgin, a doctor won't be able to tell. Your hymen can break from tampons, sport and just about anything.

At 14, the only reason you need to go is if you are sexually active, or if you have problems with your period (lasts more than 7 days, very heavy, bad cramps, worries etc) or if YOU want to go for whatever reason.

If you do decide to go, then don't panic. It shouldn't be painful, it is very uncomfortable though. If you feel any pain tell the doctor and they will stop right away.

And don't worry about them seeing your privates-OB/GYN's spend half their day, 5 days a week looking at vagina's, so it's nothing new to them.

But seriously, if you don't want one refuse. It would be illegal to make you have one against your will.

Good luck :)
Actually its not only when you have s.ex. They can detect whether there are any problems down there, regardless if you have s.ex or not just by the way for the other users on there.

I would suggest you get you mom to get a female gynie because you will feel more comfortable with a female. All it is they will take a tool and just scrape the inside of your vagina. Since you are a virgin, it will hurt but it wont be unbareable.
you only really need them once u are sexually active

but is still a good idea to get one before ur start having sex , so ur medical records have a base on whats normal for you .

I had my first at 20yrs old , was not a virgin and it came back abnormal! .Everyone is different

They dont hurt , just slightly uncomfortable , ( make sure ur relaxed)

i didnt have a regular doc , so i just asked the receptionished for the nicest doc , lol , she understood why.

Its all over in minutes
why so young,,,don't be scared it doesn't hurt, just relax and don't be tense,,if your nervous tell the doctor they will talk to you and tell you its ok.they will check your pee and your breasts and your pelvic,,its not bad,,just what all us girls has to go through,,

it is normal to be nervous so try your best to be calm and don't worry about it,,good luck honey,,
your mom can NOT make you get one.. do you know that.. you can go into the doctor and tell them you do not want one.. they will not give you one..you are 14 and can say NO...

but you really do need one.. if you have started having a period and/or are having sex..(which you are to young to do )... just to make sure things are ok down there..

dont' worry, it wont hurt and you can ask for a female doctor if you want.. NO Matter what you mom says...

if only takes a few minutes and you can have your mom in the room or you can make her stay out of the room..
omg! WHAT IS WRONG WITH EVERYONE? it doesn't hurt etc... Whether it hurts or not it is unnecessary.

i agree with TIMID WOMEN RARELY MAKE HISTORY. pap smear is recommended after you have sex for the first time or when you are 18.

you are only 14 and a virgin. eventhough you have not had sex, the speculum used will hurt since you are a virgibn and you might bleed. your hymen will partially break from the speculum. you will still be a virgin but i don't see why your mum would want to subject you to a test that may stress you out.

don't worry she can't force you.
First, Let me applaud you for staying a virgin.

As you probably know, it for checking for uterine cancer.

It is sort like, when a man shaves his beard using shaving cream and, something like a switchblade razor, to shave the whiskers off.

I am trying to explain, without being graphic.
Why is she making you? are you sexually active? They say women should start getting pap smears when they turn 18 or have been sexually active for at least 2 years..and if ur only 14 u shouldnt really need one..she cant make you..but in saying that maybe shes just worried about your health..do women in ur family have a history or cervical problems? If so it might be worthwile getting checked out..i remember my first pap test and i was so nervous and scared it was going to hurt..but it really wasnt that bad..the nurse who did mine was so friendly and made me feel comfortable..dont stress..
pap smears arn't a big deal. i've never had one but i have to soon.

mum said that a doctor (nothing sexual or gross about it) will unsert a 'duck bill' like thing into your vagina to open it up a little, then take a swab of the cells in there, and thats it.
have you had s.ex?

you only need them after you have had s.ex!
